THE Territory is the biggest loser in the Defence Force’s multibillion-dollar white paper that maps out the nation’s military future for the next two decades.
The Defence blueprint, titled Force 2030, revealed the Federal Government plans to develop a more "potent and capable" Defence Force for the future with the introduction of more than $100 billion worth of hi-tech equipment.
The investment includes long-range cruise missiles that can strike at targets thousands of kilometres from Australia’s shores for a new fleet of state-of-the-art submarines, destroyers and frigates, 100 new F-35 fighter jets, as well as eight new long-range surveillance aircraft and an additional 30 battlefield helicopters.
But Australian Defence Association executive director Neil James said there would be "minimal change" for NT-based Defence units as a result of the white paper.
